    What instruments do you play?

    I play piano, flute, oboe, and piccolo, but vocals is by far my favorite.

    What are your musical career highlights?

    My favorites have been singing on Windy City Live twice, a handful of times with the LaPorte Symphony Orchestra, and singing the National Anthem as the opening act for Alabama, Toby Keith, Big ‘N Rich, Brooks and Dunn and others.

    Who were your biggest influences in music?

    As a young child, I adored Karen Carpenter’s sweet low voice and wanted to sing just like her. As a teenager and adult, I added Anne Wilson to my list of influences because of her big sound and stage presence.

    What started your musical interest?

    I started performing on a stage at age 3 and began taking piano lessons at 8. Those weren’t exactly by choice, but music was something that was an important part of my family. I continued to perform and take instrument lessons throughout my teenage years. It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s that I realized I had some talent and started taking advantage of the opportunities that came my way. I’ve enjoyed the ride ever since!

    What do you consider the highlight of your musical career ?

    After 33 years singing barbershop with the Sweet Adelines, my chorus scored our highest score ever in last year's competition.

    What’s your fave genre?

    Light rock

    What started your musical interest?

    As a kid, I always remember sitting around the kitchen table after dinner, with Dad playing the guitar and singing, and Mom harmonizing. From that experience, I learned to play guitar, and Mom taught me to harmonize.

    Tell us something interesting about you that has nothing to do with music?

    I was a History/English major in college, but ended up fixing computers as my career.

    What instruments do you play and what is your favorite?

    Trombone (started playing in 6th grade) is my go-to instrument, but I also play acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano, and harmonica.

    What do you consider the highlight of your musical career?

    Playing “Fanfare for the Common Man” with Aaron Copland in the wings, traveling to Taiwan and Berlin with a symphony orchestra, leading a parade through Disneyland as a drum major, and finally, having a summer job in a pit orchestra at Great America.

    Who was your biggest influence in music?

    My father was a big influence, as he was an excellent singer and whistler. My high school band director was an excellent teacher and motivator.

    Tell us something interesting about yourself that has nothing to do with music?

    For 26 years, I was the “Medical Answer Guy” on WNDU TV’s weekly “Ask the Doctor” segment.

    Tell us about your musical history.

    I’ve performed as a professional musician in the Chicago area since 1974, mainly as a jazz saxophonist. I’ve toured with Eldee Young and Redd Holt, was a member of the Deja Vu Big Band, played with Franz Bentler, and most of the top names who have passed through the Chicago area. I’m also a recording artist for “Chainsaw” DuPont, Catherine Gauthier, Neil Christie, Redd Holt and others.

    What instruments do you play?

    I play tenor and soprano saxophones and also the flute.

    Who was your biggest influence in music?

    My biggest influences are Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, and King Curtis. My dad and mom were professional musicians as well; he played drums and she sang.

    Have you had an “ah-ha” musical moment?

    I have an “ah-ha” moment every time I play!

    What is your musical timeline?

    I’ve taught instrumental music since 1972 at Brandywine High School, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University and St. Joseph High School. Just recently started teaching at St. Joseph Public Schools.

    What is your favorite genre to play and to listen to?

    I like all genres of music and get to play with many groups including: The Michiana Brass, St.Joe Municipal Band and the LaPorte County Symphony.

    What made you want to play the drums?

    The famous 1930s and 1940s jazz drummer, Gene Krupa, sparked my interest in playing drums. To this day, my favorite song to play is “Sing, Sing, Sing.”

    What is your favorite genre?

    My favorites are Big Band, Swing and Classic Rock.

    What bands have you played with?

    BlueShoes Big Band, Memphis Underground, Southshore Concert Band and LMC Jazz Band are some of my favorites over the years.

    Tell us something interesting about you that has nothing to do with music.

    My wife and I are faithful Green Bay Packers fans and owners.

    I restore and show vintage John Deere 2-cylinder tractors and have won a national award for my work.
